A Textile Exploration: Kutch, Gujarat

The Kutch region is located in the Gujarat state in western India on the Pakistani border. It derives its name from katchua or kachbo, the Sanskrit for tortoise and is surrounded by sea water. With its vast expanses of white salt desert, it is one of the most beautiful, yet surreal places in India.

Kutch is also renowned for its textile art. From hand-stitched embroidery glittering with tiny mirrors, to highly complex patterned fabrics block printed by hand, the handicrafts found in Kutch are a technicolored dream.

Secret Projects is currently in the process of developing an exciting itinerary to explore the rich textiles and artisanal traditions of this region.

We hope to share more information with you soon! But in the meantime, please email travel@secretprojects.org if you have any questions.
